What's Up Wednesday!

I'm on a roll--four months in a row with my What's Up Wednesday posts!! I'm linking up with The Larson Lingo, Mix & Match Mama, & Sheaffer Told Me To today to let you know what's up with us! :)

What we're eating this week...
Monday--spaghetti & salad
Tuesday--leftover enchilada soup {recipe HERE}
Wednesday--Jason's Deli {Shelby's school was having a fundraiser there}
Thursday--hot dogs/Kraft mac & cheese/veggies {the girl's fave!!}
Friday--chicken tamale casserole {recipe HERE} Angela, thanks for sharing this one with us! It's in constant rotation around here!

What I'm reminiscing about...

It's hard to believe this time last year I was super pregnant & we were gearing up for our house-hunting trip to Las Vegas. This past year FLEW by!!! Derek & I were talking last night about how crazy it is that in just two more years we might be gearing up to do it all over again.

What I'm loving....
I took the kiddos up to Jason's Deli for dinner tonight for Shelby's school fundraiser, and Derek met us there on his way home from work. While we were eating, a lady walked over to our table to introduce herself to us. I recognized her as a Kindergarten parent from Shelby's school, but I'd never met her before. She saw Derek in uniform & came to tell us they were military, too! This may not seem like a huge deal, but this is the FIRST military family we have met in Summerlin since we moved here!!! I was so excited! Literally half of our neighborhood in San Antonio was military, so it's been so weird to us to live in a community with no military presence whatsoever. Anyhow, I'm LOVING that we finally have a military family to connect with!!!

What we've been up to....
Both girls woke up on Saturday morning with fevers, so we've been in sick mode around here. We stayed home all weekend to let the girls rest & recuperate while I was busy washing all of the towels and sheets and Lysoling everything so that the rest of us were spared! So far, so good!

{Hadley ended up randomly falling asleep THREE separate times on Friday afternoon, a sure sign that sickness was looming! Thankfully, both girls are almost back to 100%.}

What I'm dreading...
Me or Brady getting sick....germs, stay away!!

What I'm working on...
Getting swim lessons squared away for the girls!

What I'm excited about...
Derek started building a picnic table for us this past weekend for our backyard! I'm so excited about being able to eat lunches & dinners poolside this summer!

What I'm watching/reading....
We watched the HBO mini-series of Big Little Lies last week, and I totally loved it!!!

I recently finished The Nest & wasn't a huge fan, but I also finished Sally Hepworth's The Mother's Promise and LOVED it! Now I'm reading the newest book from Nicholas Sparks.

What I'm listening to...
We recently watched Moana for the first time, so the girls have been into that soundtrack,

What I'm wearing...

I'm currently wearing a maxi skirt, tee, and flip flops. Speaking of maxi skirts, I just ordered {THIS} one today in the piper red color. I love the Bobeau brand + it was on sale, so fingers crossed it fits well!

What I'm doing this weekend...
The big thing on our agenda for this weekend is getting our picnic table finished up--yay! A good friend of ours from med school is also coming into town this weekend, so Derek is hoping to get together with him at some point. Other than that, I'm not too sure what we'll be doing!

What I'm looking forward to next month...
Our trip to Tucson to see Bret & Jenny!!!! So excited!

What else is new...
Brady had his first ride in the Target shopping cart & he loved it!!! Yay!!

And Hadley had a field trip to Springs Preserve last week with Little Brother in tow! :)

And tomorrow is National Take Our Daughter and Sons to Work Day, and Shelby is super pumped to be accompanying Derek to the Allergy & Immunology Clinic tomorrow at Nellis!

That's what's up with us!!! Hope y'all are having a great week! :)

Life Lessons on the Monkey Bars

We have a cute little park right around the corner from our neighborhood that we frequently walk to. We have been going to this park ever since we moved here 10 months ago, and for the past 10 months Shelby has been working on these "kiddie" monkey bars {they are very low to the ground, which is great so the stakes are low...but it also made it harder for Shelby b/c it was so tempting to just put her feet down on the ground when she started to struggle}. When Shelby first started, all she could do was swing back and forth on the very first bar. Over the months, she worked up to transitioning to the 2nd bar. But up until the last time we went to the park, she could still only get to the 4th or 5th bar. When we went to the park on Easter Sunday, Shelby made a huge break-through and could suddenly make it all the way across the bars! It was a HUGE deal for her! This did not come easily for her at all, but she stuck with it for ten months and finally got to relish in her success!

We were so proud of her, but even better was that she was proud of herself! While this may seem like just monkey bars, this has been a really important life lesson for Shelby. Kindergarten has been a bit of an eye-opening experience for Shelby in that she was suddenly very aware of her strengths and weaknesses when compared to other kids her age. What's easy for some kids may not be easy for her {and vice versa}, and that's okay! But if you want to be able to do something, you can work at it! It may not come quickly--it make take ten months of practice {which is a long time by any standards, but especially in the world of a 5-6 year old!}, but you can do hard things!!!!!

And just because...here are two cute other pictures from the park this past week!

Easter 2017

Here are a few snapshots from our Easter Weekend! We pretty much spent the entire weekend either at home, in the pool, or at the park with the exception of attending our church's Saturday evening Easter service--it was a delightful weekend!!! The girls never even got dressed on Sunday--they wore their jammies all morning{even when they rode their scooters to the park, ha!}, swimsuits all afternoon, and then it was back into clean jammies after bathtime--the true mark of a good day!!!

We kicked off the Easter fun on Saturday morning with dyeing eggs!

We snapped these next two pictures before we left for church on Saturday evening.

{Shelby at our church's egg hunt}

On Easter morning, the girls followed a trail of jelly beans to find what the Easter Bunny had left them! Then it was French toast for breakfast & a backyard egg hunt!

Hope you had a great Easter weekend, too!

San Diego {Spring Break 2017}

This past week was Shelby's Spring Break, so we took advantage of her time off from school & headed to San Diego for the very first time! It was a relatively short trip--we left on Sunday morning & came home Wednesday night. We had so much fun exploring a new city together! And we discovered we FINALLY have a kid who will sleep in the car on road trips--this is HUGE, people!!!! Brady got all of one real nap {read: not on the go} nap over a 4 day period, but you never would have known otherwise! He was the BEST baby on this trip! Who am I kidding, he's always the best baby..he just really blew us away this trip!

The views in San Diego were pretty incredible! It was so crazy driving around town & seeing the types of houses people live in there and how they were situated up on the hills. I could have spent a whole day just driving around San Diego looking at houses! While we were there, we visited Point Loma & the tide pools, the Cabrillo National Monument, the San Diego Zoo, spent some time at the beach, and visited the Natural History Museum & the Maritime Museum. We also ate at Chick-fil-a & Panera an inordinate amount of times. ;)  At this point in our lives, we want to eat where everyone in our family is happy...and that means a lot of Chick-fil-a & Panera. ;)  We also tried out a donut shop & gourmet cupcake shop that was featured on Cupcake Wars while we were there--our family has priorities! Ha!

{sweet baby passed out at the zoo}

 {Hadley was NOT a fan of the gondola ride!}

 {Hadley had so much fun playing in the sand, but she was wary of the water! She would run to the water's edge & then sprint back up to the dry sand!}

{This girl was OFF THE CHARTS excited to be at the beach! She was so genuinely exuberant. Shelby literally could not stop herself from running, jumping, skipping, and squealing. She was having the BEST time! I can't wait to get her back to Ormond this summer!}

{Hadley was making her dinosaur "roar" in this pic, ha!}

{never was a shirt more perfectly suited for me}

{the girls were less than impressed with the National Geographic art exhibit until we started mimicking the animals, then they couldn't get enough of it!}

{the views were unreal here!}

{Hadley's new winky face}

The pic above was the first thing Hadley did when we got home from our trip. We realized about 15 minutes into our drive to San Diego that we forgot Hadley's beloved bear (who is coincidentally named none other than "Bear"). She was so mad at us, but we knew she'd be fine so we decided to press on with the trip. She would start singing along with us on the drive, then remember that she was mad at us and just stop mid-lyric and scowl at us. She was totally over it by the time we arrived in San Diego & never really mentioned it again until the day we were coming home. She raced up to her room to "rescue" Bear when he got home & immediately had to feed him. ;)
