Tuesday Tidbits

--Ever since we left San Antonio, I have missed the Panera drive-thru in the worst way! We have a Panera super close to us that we frequent on a regular basis, but there's just not a drive-thru..womp, womp. I say all the time how much more I would go to Panera if only we had a drive-thru here. Well, well, well...recently our Panera launched a new delivery service!! I've been meaning to try it out for a while but just never did, and then this week I had a $5 off coupon to try with the delivery service. We tried it today, and it was amazing!!! Their website to order on was so user-friendly & the delivery was fast--I was just so impressed! It totally made my day! Added bonus--you can still take advantage of the $6.99 Tuesday bagel deal when you order online & have it delivered!! :)

--I recently finished this book. I've read a few other books in the "psychological thriller" type genre and enjoyed them, but I think this one was a bit much for me!

--My mom is coming next week, and we're all so, so excited!!

--My parents also have another trip out to Las Vegas booked for October. My dad has a conference to attend, and they're going to stay a few extra days with us afterward! We're going to make our first visit to Zion National Park while they're here!!

--Speaking of my family, I can now make this news "blog official:" Emily & Chris are expecting a baby boy in January!!! We're soooo excited for them! It will be so fun for Brady to have a little boy cousin so close in age to him! :)

--Shelby had a little "trial" piano lesson last week, and as we suspected she loved it. As we were walking out the door of the teacher's house, Shelby immediately blurted out: "I am DEFINITELY doing that again!" Ha! Shelby has always loved playing the piano at my parents' house, so we thought this would be a good fit for her. And as an added bonus--the teacher lives across the street from us about two doors down. :)  Between the move, our first kid starting elementary school, and a baby--extra-curricular activities were not an option last year for us. I knew Shelby was ready for something this year, but I didn't want to overcommit us and I really didn't want to be dragging three kids across town and trying to schedule things around a baby who still naps twice/day. Aside from the swim lessons we did back in May that were in our backyard, this is about the most convenient extra-curricular activity we could ask for! ;)

--Hadley attends Pre-K in the morning at our school, and we don't really know anyone in her class yet. We have a few friends with kids in the afternoon session of Pre-K, and they keep telling me how their little ones are somewhat clingy/teary every day at drop-off. Hadley is the total opposite--she doesn't even say goodbye to us at drop-off, ha! For a girl who can cry at the drop of a hat at home, she is the most well-adjusted kid at school you've ever seen!

{I had to nurse Brady as soon as we got home from picking Hadley up from Pre-K this morning. When I came out of Brady's room, this is how I found Hadley.}

--Shelby was excited to take her Monster of the Week stuff to school yesterday!

--For a city that is sunny and 110 degrees 99% of the time during this part of the year, yesterday was overcast & rainy. The eclipse was a total non-event here. Thankfully, we hadn't gotten glasses or done anything to prepare, so weren't disappointed at all. I just couldn't believe that was the ONE day Las Vegas decided to be cloudy & rainy!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!! Hope your week is off to a great start!

A Monsterific Week!

Whew, we made it through the first week of school!! We were all exhausted by the end of the week & behavior at home was sub-par to say the least, but we made it! And in true back-to-school form, Shelby woke up with a little cold this morning. Tis the season!!!

But we ended the first week back to school on a high note! Derek was in San Diego for a few days last week for an immunizations conference, but he got back late Thursday night and was able to stay home with us on Friday. And since Hadley is off on Fridays, we all went up to school to eat lunch with our big first grader!! There really is no place quite like an elementary school lunch room, ha!

Nicholas lives in our neighborhood & was in Shelby's class last year and again this year. He insisted upon sitting between the girls for lunch :)

Then shortly after we got home from lunch, I saw this pop up on my phone:

Shelby was selected as the first "Monster of the Week" for her class! One of the perks is bringing home the class monster for the weekend, so we tried to show him a good time!

 Quick trip to Red Rock Canyon!

The monster was lucky enough to be visiting on Pizza Night in our house & got to share in Shelby's favorite breadsticks from Papa John's!

Brady got in a little walking practice with the monster ;)

And the monster even got to accompany Shelby to her very first piano lesson!

All three kiddos were in bed by 6:30pm tonight, Derek & I have done our usual Sunday night chores, and now we're about to indulge in {THESE} for dessert while Derek watches a little American Ninja Warrior. We're ready for Week #2!!

First Day of School 2017

Today was the first day of school for us!! Shelby is starting first grade & Hadley is starting Pre-K, and I couldn't be more excited to have them both at the same school!!! They both start at the same time each morning, but Hadley will get picked up at 10:30 & Shelby will be picked up at 2:11. Also, Hadley will only go Mon-Thurs.

As of now, Brady is still taking two naps/day. So after dropping the girls off this morning, I came home & put him down for his morning nap. In case you didn't pick up on this significance of this--I HAVE TWO HOURS TO MYSELF RIGHT NOW!!!!! Hence the reason this blog post is getting up in real time, ha! I'm also super excited for later in the year when Brady drops his morning nap b/c then I'll get one-on-one time with him while Hadley is at Pre-K, and I'll be able to run errands or do stuff with just one kid! And it will be so nice to have Hadley home on Fridays, so she can still go to the museum or splash pad or just have a lazy day at home with us. And I'm super excited that Hadley's school day is over before Shelby's first grade lunchtime, so we can join Big Sister for lunch from time to time! If you didn't notice, I'm just all kinds of excited!

From when I was little and going to school myself to my teaching days to my days as a mama, I have always loved the start of a new school year! And this year is no different! Last year everything felt a little more overwhelming than exciting with both of the girls starting at new schools, and we were in a new town with a new baby and a new job for Derek. Fast forward to today, and it was such a good feeling dropping the girls off today at a school we know and love where people were greeting our babies by name with big hugs. I think it's going to be a great year for all of us!

Summer Wrap-Up!

Summer is officially winding down here, so I wanted to make sure I got the rest of our summer pics up on the blog before I was inundated with back-to-school pics!

 {Hadley trying on Shelby's old Cinderella costume for size}
{hiking at Mount Charleston}

{post hiking on Mount Charleston}

{our friends gave us an insane number of peaches from their peach tree, so Hadley helped us make some peach salsa!}

{showing off new backpacks stuffed with school supplies for the backpack drive at church}

 {thinking he's big stuff at the children's museum!}
{Doing big work!! AKA pushing the wheelbarrow of coal at the museum}

{look at that sweet baby in shoes!}

 {then he decided our stroller needed pushing, too!}
 {water exhibit at the children's museum}
{three clean babies in dinosaur jammies!}

{turned around for one second & found him like this!}

The next three pictures are some of my absolute faves! The library is seriously one of our family's favorite places & one of our most frequent destinations. One kiddo is reading, one is puzzling, and one is playing!

{We met some friends at the splash pad one afternoon, and these three had so much fun playing in the sand together! It's so weird to see Brady in the mix with the big kids now!}

{Target fun}

{Brady is really into pushing the shopping cart around lately, but the real reason I included this pic is b/c when I saw it all I could think was that it was a spitting image of Derek's baby pictures!}

And the surest sign that summer is nearing an end--meeting the girls' new teachers! Our school hosted a little "Meet and Greet" event on Friday afternoon, and we're all even more excited for school to begin now! Shelby's first grade teacher is the same teacher that she went to for her reading group last year in Kindergarten, so she over the moon to be in her class! Her teacher actually team teaches with another teacher, so I think it will be fun a new experience for Shelby! Their classroom is nothing short of amazing! And coming from a former teacher, I can't even begin to imagine how much time & effort went into it! They actually had to switch classrooms over the summer, so they were starting from scratch--I seriously couldn't believe the transformation! It was waaaaay too crazy to get many pictures on Friday, but hopefully I'll get some on the first day when Daddy will be with us & I'll have more hands, ha! And we are so excited that Hadley will be attending Pre-K at the same school as Shelby this year! I absolutely adore Hadley's lead teacher! Right now, there are only 12 or 13 kids on the roster for her class with 2 teachers + 2 aides!!

Summer 2017 was good to us, but we're ready for a new school year!!
