At our condo in VA, we didn't have a laundry room...just a laundry closet, if you will. We just had a little closet with just enough room to fit a stackable washer & dryer.

In our new house, we have a decent-sized laundry room..it even has a window, sink, and cabinets! But with all that space comes lots of bare white walls.
(I don't know if I've mentioned this on the blog before or not, but we can't paint the walls in our house. Since it's a brand-new house on base with fresh paint, the paint is under a two-year warranty...so no painting for two years. We were really bummed about this at first, but it saved us a lot of the headaches that come with painting...and it forced us to be creative with our decor in the house.) After reading
Kate's crafty post over at Barefoot Daydreams, I was inspired to spruce up our laundry room a bit this weekend! It was a quick, easy make-over..but I am very pleased with the outcome!
We have two paintings made by Derek's grandfather that didn't quite "go" with any of the rooms in our house, but we really wanted to hang them...so we found them a home in the laundry room. Here's a look at one of the paintings that we hung next to the cabinets...

To complete the room, I followed Kate's lead and purchased a set of wooden letters at Michael's to spell out the word "laundry." We (and by "we," I mean Derek) spray painted the letters black, then I hot glued some olive green ribbon (I chose this color to tie in the greens that are in the two paintings) on the back of the letters to hang them from the wall.

Here's another look at the letters from the doorway to the laundry room..and you can get a peek at the other painting made by Derek's grandfather that we hung on the wall to the right.

And last but not least, here's a peek at the organization system I use for my cleaning supplies. Somehow, we ended up with an extra over-the-door shoe organizer when we were unpacking from the move. I don't know where it came from...maybe my classroom?? Anyhow, I didn't want it to go to waste, so I used it to organize my cleaning supplies!

This is on the back of the door to the laundry room, so you can't see it from the rest of the house. I used to keep my cleaning supplies in a cabinet, and I would always be knocking things over trying to get the one bottle I wanted. Now, I can see all of my supplies at a glance and easily get to what I want quickly. I also keep a bucket in one of the cabinets so if I'm cleaning a bathroom on the other side of the house, I can load up all of the supplies I need in my bucket....then return them to their handy-dandy spot in the organizer.
So, there's our quick & easy make-over to the laundry room! And what made it even better was the price! The only things we had to buy were the wooden letters from Michael's and the ribbon...can't beat that!
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!
