Tuesday Tidbits

--After two years in Las Vegas, I'm not sure when we will ever be used to so much rain again! It has rained SO MUCH here lately!! The power went out one Monday morning thanks to a thunderstorm right as we needed to be getting up and ready for the day. It made for an interesting start to our week! While Derek was running around lighting candles, Shelby was doing this:

--Thankfully, we've gotten a break from the rain this past week! We have had beautiful DRY fall weather that has allowed our pool to get underway!! It has been so fun to watch the progress!

--We went to a local farm for some fall festivities this past weekend. It ended up being kind of a flop b/c it was just so muddy there still from all the rain, but fun was still had!

--Later that evening, we had a shoe and stroller cleaning party b/c everything was covered in mud. I think our children had just as much fun cleaning as they did at the farm. ;)

--The girls got their fall school pictures back this week, and I was so happy with how they turned out! Hadley wore her very favorite dress & very favorite necklace for picture day, which made it much more memorable of a picture!

--For the first year of Brady's life, he was still so little that we bathed the girls together and always bathed Brady separately by himself. Once he was big enough, we were bathing all three of them together in the bathtub. So for about a year, I always had all 3 kiddos in the tub at the same time unless Shelby took a shower. Once we moved here, Shelby now has her own bathroom and only takes showers these days. Hadley and Brady each have their own sink/vanity area, but share a bathroom and they are such good little bath buddies! For so long, it was always just the girls in the tub together and it's so weird to think that Shelby's bath days are over!

--We donated our double jogging stroller a few weeks ago. Since we move so often, we are very diligent about continuously purging things we no longer need & I rarely get sentimental about it. But for some reason, this one got me! This stroller helped maintain my sanity on many afternoons with two grumpy girls in those witching hours along the back bay in Biloxi and then to our neighborhood playground when we were living in San Antonio previously for Derek's fellowship. It transported Hadley and Brady to the "bunny trail" in Summerlin and on countless walks to and from school and the park. It's been so good to us through the years. I think part of the reason it was hard for me to say goodbye to this stroller was b/c had we still been living in Las Vegas, we would have kept it as Summerlin was a walkable planned community. And if I'm being honest, I'm still mourning the loss of Summerlin! ;)  We of course love our new neighborhood and house, but it's just not the same--it never is though. I'm just still adjusting to our new normal! Hopefully this stroller will find a new life with another sweet family!

--We have our 2nd visitor coming to see us soon, and we're all so excited!!
--The girls wrote thank you notes recently to my parents, and I took pictures of their notes to remember their writing at this stage. Hadley's writing has really taken off in the last couple of weeks, and this is only the 2nd letter she has written to someone entirely independently. I love how much voice Shelby's writing has & how both of their personalities shine through their writing!

And here's a few other random pictures of our life lately!

Happy Halloween Eve!!!

Top Five Friday!

5. I got my Christmas cards ordered earlier this week, and I'm feeling all kinds of accomplished!

4. We got to see Bret & Jenny and their girls this past Saturday, and we had the best time with them! We met up with them at Sea World, and then they came back to our house for the rest of the day. We're so grateful for the time we had with them! I somehow didn't take any pictures the whole day, but I snagged these two from Jenny & I couldn't love them more. I love the one of Bret & Derek and the two big girls. I'm sure these two high school BFF's would never have dreamed we'd be taking a picture of them on a kiddie coaster with their daughters all these years later, and I just can't imagine anything sweeter!

3. Last Sunday night, Derek & I snuck out for a date night! We went to dinner and the John Crist show. If you ever get the chance to see him perform, GO!!! We had the BEST time!!!

2. BIKE RODEO! I'm not sure if this is just a San Antonio thing or what, but all of the elementary schools in our area have an annual Bike Rodeo. The kids compete in four different areas--a balance test, riding in a circle, riding in a straight line, and then a brief "obstacle course" through cones. Then the winners from each school go on to a city-wide competition--it's kind of a big deal! Anyhow, this was obviously our first experience with a Bike Rodeo..but the girls had a blast & did awesome!

I of course took way too many videos at the event, but I just had to include this one here on the blog. Please note that prior to Hadley's turn, not one child was chanted for. As soon as Hadley's turn came, everyone behind her starting chanting her name. Also, most of the kids were a little nervous when they got up there to start. But Hadley was smiling at me and completely reveling in the fact that everyone was cheering for her. Around the 15 second mark of the video, she even gives me a wink and a thumbs-up...it was too much!

1. Last but not least, our driveway is one of my very favorite things about our new house! Since having kids, we have always had very short and/or sloped driveways that we essentially couldn't play on at all really. But not anymore!!! We have such a nice, long driveway, and it's just perfect for our kids. I couldn't be more grateful for this! It's finally starting to cool off some here in San Antonio, so this is where you can find us most evenings!

Happy Friday to you! :)  And in case you missed it, I also posted some super cute videos of Brady yesterday if I do say so myself! ;)  Hope you have the best weekend!!

Brady

Brady's communication skills have really just flown off in the past couple of months. I came into the kitchen yesterday to put away the breakfast dishes & start prepping lunch while Brady was happily playing in the living room. After a couple minutes of me rattling around in the kitchen, Brady looked over his shoulder and called out to me.

Brady: Makin' lunch, Mama?
Me: Yes, Bubby, I'm making lunch.
Brady: Yogurt?
Me: You want yogurt for lunch today?
Brady: Yes, please.
Me: Okay, you can have yogurt for lunch today.
Brady: Okay, thanks Mama.

This may seem like nothing at all to you, but I just had a completely coherent conversation with my BABY! What is even happening?!?! His little voice is just the sweetest thing you've ever heard in your life. Every now and again, Derek and I will just look at each other and marvel at just how stinkin' sweet this little boy is. We always say: "Isn't he just the sweetest?" Then the other will typically reply something along the lines of: "He's either the sweetest or the absolute worst." Which of course is just par for the course with toddlers. ;)

Here is a video I just took today of Brady "reading" Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See. If he's not busy lining up his animals or cars, Brady's favorite thing to do right now is read. He loves being read to, but he also loves to shoo us away so he can "read" his books on his own. And he has to either sit on the couch or on the chair in his room to do his reading--he's very particular. ;)

And two more videos of Brady showing off his "tricks" today after he woke up from his afternoon nap..sorry for the video overload! I just really wanted to capture his sweet little voice & personality at this stage.

And here is another video of Brady from a few weeks ago playing with Play-Doh. :)

And last but not least, I'll leave you with a few other recent pictures of Brady. :)  As you can tell, Brady loves going to eat lunch with the girls at school!

We are so very thankful for this sweet boy & simply cannot imagine our family without him!
