2025 Christmas Card

Between moving, managing Shelby's grueling marching band schedule {along with orchestra, jazz band, and playing the piano for the school musical}, and adjusting to working again while also homeschooling, it was a busy fall for us! I can't imagine why (ha!), but this was the first time since 2011 that we didn't have professional family pictures taken. I almost didn't send Christmas cards since we didn't have our "official" family pictures, but Derek convinced me to still do it...and I'm so glad he did! I feel like the way our card turned out perfectly captured our life in this season!

We are currently on Christmas Break & soaking in every minute of the slower pace! The weather has been absolutely perfect, so there's been lots of poolside reading and playing outside mixed in with Christmas movies & board games. It's been glorious! So thankful for this chance to slow down & enjoy our time together!

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!

December 2025

Before Christmas arrives, here is a quick look back at our December: Advent, Once Upon a Mattress musical with Shelby playing the piano--so much fun!!, Science Night at Marvelously Made, and winter concerts.

We continued our Advent tradition this year of reading through the book of Luke together, unwrapping a Christmas picture book each day, and the kids got fun Advent calendars from Grandma & Granddad--a survival set for Brady & makeup/craft set for the girls!

{Derek can't sit down during Georgia games...and neither can Brady!}

For Science Night at Marvelously Made, the Collective students (4th-8th grade) researched a significant historical invention from 5000BC-1000AD. After researching, each child created a tri-fold board with key information, prepared a hands-on activity for people to participate in when they visited their table, and prepared a spiel to share with everyone about their topic. Brady & Hadley worked so hard on this & knocked it out of the park! They both picked topics that were perfect for them--Brady researched bows & arrows, and Hadley researched Egyptian eye makeup.

{Shelby was able to come to the first portion of Science Night before heading to her band concert}

Grandma & Granddad have a special Christmas tradition with our kids. Each year, our crew picks children from Clark's Kids to gift Christmas presents to that are then purchased by Grandma & Granddad. The picture below is of them researching their gift recipients.

A few years ago, Shelby's class at Marvelously Made read the book The Christmas Jar, which inspired our kids to start a Christmas jar--collecting small amounts of money over time to donate/contribute to a good cause when it is filled. Our kids chose to spend their Christmas Jar money on more gifts for Clark's Kids this year!

We spent a good chunk of December organizing & purging in Hadley's room. We also got new wall art hanging in her room & did a little DIY project to display/organize her earrings!

Shelby volunteered to bring donuts to a school event the week before Christmas break, so we made a morning out of it!

{Christmas movie watching after Shelby's last final!}

After Shelby's last day of school, we headed to Sonic for lunch to celebrate & went to the library. They read for hours once we got home! Nothing says winter break like a good library haul!

{BooBoo's annual Christmas craft project--this year they decorated cinnamon sticks!}

Our first full official day of Winter Break included a trip to Duck Donuts & a game of Monopoly!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

November 2025

November was a busy one for us! Highlights of the month for our family: the culmination of marching band season, musical rehearsals galore for Shelby, Hadley's & Brady's first concert!, decorating for Christmas, a trip to Kalahari in Austin with the Robbins family, and of course Thanksgiving!

I documented the picture below because we were so happy to finally be having a Friday night movie again!! After so many Fridays on football field, it was so nice to be here on a Friday evening!

{researching his topic for Science Night}

On November 8th, we went to the Cain Live & In Color show featuring Cain, Jon Reddick, Caleb & John, and Annie F. Downs. It was Hadley's & Brady's first concert, and it was a lot of fun to hear lots of our favorite K Love songs performed live! (Shelby wasn't able to join us because her school's football team made it to the play-offs for the first time in 5 or 6 years!)

We were thrilled to have Derek home on Veterans Day! The rest of us all had school, but it was such a treat to have Derek with us for breakfast in the morning before all going our separate ways. And the kids loved having Daddy bring them to school/pick them up. Hadley & Brady were especially pumped because they got to arrive to school about an hour later/leave an hour earlier than they do with me.

Hadley, Brady, and I started doing weekly lunch dates in November. Of course our first stop was Panera!

Brady and Hadley were very excited to chop/smash our leftover pumpkins once we decided to put our fall decorations away for the season.

For a couple of days at the beginning of our Thanksgiving break, we headed to Austin to go to Kalahari (an indoor water park) & meet up with the Robbins family. Lots of fun was had!!!

{helping prep fpr Thanksgiving!}

{Thanksgiving Day Parade}

After our Thanksgiving lunch, we headed out to see the long awaited new Wicked movie!

The Saturday after Thanksgiving, Hadley's band was invited to perform at the Alamo Christmas tree lighting, which was such a fun way to kick off the holiday season!

After a whirlwind summer traveling across the country and moving and then a busy fall adjusting to me working again along with Shelby starting high school and marching band....it was so nice to have such a quiet, relaxing Thanksgiving break!
