See ya, Civic!

Just letting everyone know that the Civic has officially been sold! We put the ad on AutoTrader and CraigsList last Sunday, and I finalized the deal this afternoon. Interest in the car started off pretty slow, but I got a lot of emails and calls Friday and yesterday. I showed the car to 2 people yesterday. One person had to try to get financing, but the second came back today with cash so it was a done deal.
I think Sarah was a little emotional about the whole situation since she has had a lot of memories over the past 9.5 years in the Civic. However, when I showed her the cash I think she was a little more accepting of the situation. We considered trading the Civic in when we bought the CR-V, but I figured I could get more money for it this way. And it worked out in our favor! I'm glad to have everything finalized with the cars. Now I'm on to the next item on my "to do before the move" list.

On a completely different subject, I got my official orders to move to Biloxi on Tuesday and I put the paperwork in for the Air Force to move our things. As of right now, the plan is to have them move us out on June 1st. This way, our stuff will arrive in Biloxi during my first couple of days there so I can get us moved into our new house on Keesler before Sarah gets there!

Tomorrow I start my radiology rotation at USUHS, and we've got a doctor's appointment for Sarah in the afternoon...we'll keep you posted!

Happiness!

Pure happiness is what I am experiencing right now b/c I am officially on SPRING BREAK! Woohoo! :) It was a loooong and hectic week leading up to the break (hence the lack of posts on the blog!), but I couldn't be happier now! I am looking forward to every minute of my ten-day break. Derek & I have a quiet, lazy weekend planned for this weekend, and then things will pick up next week!

Derek will begin his FINAL ROTATION of medical school, and I will fill my time with doctor's appointments, catching up on school work, preparing for Derek's graduation, and LOTS of relaxing (hallelujah!) before our mini-vacay to Philly!
I think the CR-V is ready for its first road trip! :) I've officially "moved in" to my new car (complete with a UGA tag on the front!), and I must say that I've been enjoying it! I think my fave new feature is the seat warmers...I use them every morning on the way to school. :)

Happy Saturday, Everyone!

New Car!

I just wanted to let everyone know that we officially bought Sarah a new car today!
2010 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD with Navigation
Sarah's had her eye on CR-V's for the past couple of years, but I was able to convince her to keep the Civic until the transmission and gas tank debacles of 2009. When we finally fixed the gas tank in the fall we decided to buy a new car when we got to Biloxi, but after doing my many hours of research I learned that there are 16 Honda dealerships within 50 miles of our condo, but only 1 Honda dealership within 50 miles of Keesler AFB. With that information I figured that the car market would be much more competitive here. Also, I figured it'll be much easier for me to sell the Civic here since there are tons of commuters who would love to get the Civic's gas mileage.
I started seriously researching CR-V's a couple of weeks ago, and I got email quotes from all 16 dealerships in the area. I read almost everything on Edmunds.com about car dealerships and got an idea of what people are actually paying for new CR-V's on Truecar.com. I waited until I got all the quotes with all included fees so that I could compare all of the dealerships before even leaving the house. Today we went to the dealership with the lowest cost for the CR-V and the least fees. We got there at about 11:30am and drove off the lot at 1:45 or so. It was a very easy process because we had already negotiated price and everything. We just showed up, checked the car out, filled out the paperwork, waited for USAA to fax the new insurance, wrote the check, and drove home. We were pretty hungry afterwards so we headed to the Tyson's Corner Cheesecake Factory for a nice lunch since we only have 2 months left to enjoy eating at this restaurant since Biloxi is Cheesecake Factory-less.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day, so I plan to get the Civic washed up to get ready to sell! Out with the Civic, and in with the CR-V!

Philadelphia, Here we Come!

We just booked a mini vacay to Philadelphia last night, and we're quite excited about it! :) Since we moved to Northern Virginia a few years ago, Philadelphia has been on our list of places to visit since it's so close. (It's about a 2 hour & 45 minute drive...not too bad!) Since our time here in Northern VA is quickly coming to a close, we decided we would go ahead and make the trip to Philly over my Spring Break. Yay! :)

Among the many things we have planned to do while we're there is the Duck Tour.
It's like a bus/boat that takes you around the city to show you all of the main attractions. Every time I think of this tour, all I can think of is the movie The Break Up with Jennifer Anniston & Vince Vaughn. If you haven't seen the movie, Vince Vaughn's character is a tour guide that has similar vehicle that can go on land & in water. I have a feeling this tour is going to be quite the experience!
Only 2 weeks till we'll be Philadelphia-bound! And it's hard to believe that we will already know the sex of our baby by then! :)

Okay..off to eat some dinner & get ready for American Idol! Looking forward to seeing if my votes paid off last night!

Thanks for stopping by, friends! :)

Weekend Recap

We had a pretty low-key weekend...rested a lot to try to kick this cold (it's almost gone!) and stayed mostly indoors b/c it rained all.weekend.long. But we've got some nice spring-like days coming up this week, so I'm super excited about that! And, all of our piles of snow that were once taller than me have all melted away! Bring on the spring weather!

We did manage a trip to Super Target and Jason's Deli for dinner on Saturday (I'm going to miss that place when we go to Biloxi!). I got a cute purple swimsuit cover-up at Target and ordered some purple rain boots from Target online! I don't know what it is with me and purple things these days?!
When we were in Biloxi this past August, it rained for at least an hour every single day we were there...so I figure I will get a lot of use out of these pretty soon! :)

Hope everyone has a great start to their week tomorrow!

Just checking in...

Sorry for being M.I.A. this week....just wanted to let you know that we're still alive and well! I guess I should say one of us is well. I've been sick this week with a head cold, so I've left school every day by 4 or 4:30 (this is UNHEARD of for me since I usually leave around 6ish) to come home and lay on the couch and rest. I'm finally starting to feel a little more like myself this afternoon, and I'm hopeful that one more good night's sleep will kick this cold!

In more exciting news, I have my big official ultrasound with the radiology department scheduled for March 29th. So as long as our little babe cooperates during the ultrasound, we should knew whether we'll be having a boy or a girl in just 2.5 weeks...YAY! :)

Now I'm going to go back to laying on the couch while my hubby cooks dinner..then it's time for American Idol! :)

Hope everyone has a happy Friday tomorrow! :)

Dancing Queen

Friday night was my school's talent show, and it was definitely a fun night! It was actually supposed to be a month ago, but due to our unexpected "snow-cation" it had to be rescheduled. Derek was a trooper and sat through 2+ hours of countless acts. He decided there should be a screening for next year's talent show...in other words, the kids actually have to have some kind of talent in order to perform..ha!

The teachers' choreographed dance is the grand finale of the show every year. We danced to the song I Gotta Feelin' by the Black Eyed Peas, and it was a lot of fun! The kids wait and wait for this performance, and it makes us feel like celebrities for a night. As they were waiting for us to go on the stage, they were chanting: "TEACHERS! TEACHERS! TEACHERS!" It's hilarious. Here are me and some of my fave teacher friends sporting our ensembles for the evening..
Derek attempted to video our performance with our digital camera, so my mom could see it. But since it's just with our digital camera, the quality isn't superb. For those of you that may remember, my mom actually flew up to VA last month so she see the Talent Show...but since it got snowed out, she missed it! So this video is for my mom..and for anyone else who might be interested in seeing teachers try to dance! :)

Hello, 2nd Trimester!

It's hard to believe, but I have just embarked on the 2nd trimester of this pregnancy! It is really flying by! I've decided to start recording some of the pregnancy "highlights" here on the blog to share with our family & friends and as a way for us to remember what was happening and how we felt along the way. I've seen this template on a few other blogs of mommies-to-be, and I thought I'd give it a try! So here we go....

How far along: 13 weeks
Weight Gain: None yet. When I was weighed at my doctor's appointment on Friday, I was almost the exact same weight as I was on my 1st visit back in January...just 1/10 of a pound less this time!
Maternity clothes: No--I'm not really showing..yet! But I can definitely tell a difference in my belly..I'm looking a little "bloated" these days!
Sleep: Yes, please! I've definitely noticed an increase in my level of exhaustion lately! Derek & I went to Target for some grocery shopping this weekend, and I definitely fell asleep on the short drive home! (Not that this would really surprise my fam...) And the worst part is that I am STRUGGLING to make it through each episode of American Idol. I think I've actually only seen one entire episode from start to finish!
Movement: Not yet! But after seeing our little babe doing flips & twirls on the ultrasound last week, it's hard to believe that I can't feel anything!
Food cravings: Nothing really. For the past week or two, I've kind of been in a stage where nothing really sounds good. Nothing makes me sick or anything..I just have a hard time deciding on what to eat b/c nothing sounds super-appetizing.
Symptoms: I've been one of the lucky ones so far..never really had any nausea or morning sickness. My only pregnancy symptoms have been fatigue and going to the bathroom ALL.THE.TIME. I always knew that frequent urination was a common symptom of pregnancy, but I had no idea that I would be in the bathroom almost every hour!
Gender: We should find out in a about a month...CAN'T WAIT!
What I miss: Nothing :)
Best moment this week: Getting to see our sweet baby and hear his/her heartbeat for the very first time!
What I am looking forward to: Finding out if we're having a boy or a girl! My doctor put in the orders for the big ultrasound at our last visit, so I get to call the radiology department this week to make our appointment!
Milestones: We're 1/3 of the way there! Hard to believe we'll be a family of three in just 6 short months!

And just for fun here's some pics...please try to ignore how rough I look! I had just woken up at the end of American Idol. :)

Medical School Update

Hello again!

I just wanted to check in again now that I am done with my inpatient Internal Medicine month. I like inpatient medicine, but I do not like working 6 days per week. I guess I'll get used to it next year, but for now, I'd like to have my weekends. I was on call every third day for the past month and admitted patients for everything from a tremor to a stroke. I was glad to end my rotation last Friday because the Secret Service showed up on Friday and started taking the names of everyone who would be working last weekend. I guess Obama or someone was coming to visit the wounded soldiers, which is nice of them, but it creates a security nightmare to try to deal with besides the normal craziness caused by the construction going on to combine Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center. This was also my last required rotation of medical school. From this point forward, I'm just doing electives to fill the time until graduation!

Now I'm doing an outpatient rotation in Pulmonology at the National Naval Medical Center. From what I gathered today, it looks like I'll spend a lot of my time learning about asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and lung cancer. I'll also get to spend a couple of days per week watching bronchoscopies, which can be used to biopsy suspicious masses or remove peanuts from kids' windpipes. I am looking forward to this being my last real rotation of medical school because during April I'll be doing a radiology rotation which will entail lots of sitting in dark rooms looking at x-rays!
