Our Turkey Day
We celebrated our first Thanksgiving as a family of 3 this year! Due to Derek's busy schedule at the hospital, we had to stay here in Biloxi for the holiday...as did some of our neighbors, so we each made a couple of dishes and celebrated together. Although we really missed being with our families, we had a nice holiday.
We were especially thankful that Derek got Thanksgiving Day off--he's been out of town working at a civilian hospital in Jackson (about 3 hours away) for all of November. So it was a pleasant surprise that he got to come and spend the day with us! And I'm even more thankful that November is almost over b/c that means Derek will be coming home, & I could not be more excited about that! :) Derek & I have done the long-distance thing quite a few times throughout our relationship (Field Training right after we started dating, multiple TDY's, & most notably a year apart when Derek was in VA & I was still living in GA finishing my master's degree); so even though we don't like being apart, we are used to it. But being apart with a newborn? Now that's a whole different story! It's definitely been a long & challenging month for both of us! Thankfully my mom stayed with Shelby & me for a good portion of the month, which made things a lot easier on me. But I will be a happy, happy girl when I get my hubby back in a couple of days! And I know Shelby will be a happy baby to have her Daddy home again! :)
