Halloween 2014 & Weekend Recap

Our Halloween started with a little surprise for the girls. I had picked up a card for the girls & two new Halloween books to add to their collection. When Shelby opened up the card, she was shocked when she saw it was from Mommy & Daddy. I guess she's so used to getting cards in the mail from extended family that it was a surprise to get one from us, ha! Apparently I've been slacking in the card department for my children! ;)  Shelby was of course delighted with the books. When she saw the Doc McStuffins book, she immediately started hugging it and saying: "Thank you, thank you Mommy! It's just what I always wanted!" :)

And just for my memory's sake, I have to share a quick story about their matching Halloween jammies. Back in September when my parents were here, my mom & I snuck out to run a few errands one afternoon while the girls napped. We happened to see these cute Halloween PJs at Wal-Mart and couldn't pass them up at 5 bucks a pair. I thought Shelby would love them, but after she saw them she insisted that they were too scary and that we needed to return them. Soon after my parents headed back to GA, we made a trip to return the PJs. When we got to Wal-Mart, Shelby suddenly decided she could be brave about the pajamas so we could keep them, but she told me she still didn't understand why the shirts said "I'm so cute it's scary." She kept saying "If I'm cute, how am I scary?" ;)

After breakfast, we headed outside to make Oobleck. I told the girls we were making monster goo, but Shelby wasn't buying that story. ;)  They had so much fun with the Oobleck! The last time we'd made this Shelby was probably around Hadley's age!

Baths immediately followed our Oobleck fun, and then the girls and I headed out for a run & playground time. Once we got home, I let the girls watch the Halloween episode of Doc McStuffins while I made lunch. Hadley insisted on sitting in Shelby's lap to watch. :)

After lunch & naps, I fed the girls an early dinner then it was time to get ready for trick or treating! The girls were so excited & very wound up. ;)

Hadley insisted on carrying her book around for trick or treating ;)

We did our trick or treating early while it was still light out. We told the girls they could pick ten houses to trick or treat at, and then we would head home to pass out our candy (which Shelby LOVES to do!).

The first stop of the night :)
Hadley did a great job participating; but after the girls got their candy at each house, Hadley wouldn't budge from the doorsteps. I think she thought she was supposed to go inside each house. ;)

We lost count on how many stumbles Hadley took while we were out trick or treating. Between carrying her big pumpkin and her book, wearing her Olaf hat (which kept falling down over her eyes), and refusing any help from Mommy or Daddy, she was a mess! ;)

Sneaking more candy :)

Checking on the jackolantern :)

While Shelby passed out candy to the trick or treaters that came to our house, Hadley kept busy redistributing candy to all the buckets. ;)

Not wound up at all ;)

Halloween was so fun this year, but it defintely wore all four of us out! ;)  We didn't do too much the rest of the weekend. The weather was nice & cool on Saturday, so we made a trip to the zoo after a lazy start to our morning.

The rest of our Saturday was spent napping, watching college football, and at our neighborhood playground (we had to break out our jackets for the first time!). Sunday was more of the same--sleeping in, a family run/playground time, naps, and watching Aladdin. The highlights of Sunday for me were getting my hair cut, getting to run a few errands kid-free, and "Daddy dinner!" (Derek typically makes dinner for us on Sundays, and he usually tries to make something on the grill or something that isn't easy for me to make during the week with the girls under my feet--we had delicious steaks, baked potatoes, & broccoli!)

This weekend also marked Daylight Savings Time, and falling back is never as fun when small children live with you! ;)  Thankfully our girls are very good sleepers, and Hadley sleeps in so late that the hour time change actually helps us. ;)  Shelby, on the other hand, was in our room at 6:30 on Sunday morning instead of her usual 7:30. This morning was a bit better at 6:45, thank goodness! I also don't like it getting dark so early at night, we'll have to start getting in our outside playtime before dinner now!

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start, can't believe we're already three days into November!!
