--During lunch one day:
Shelby: It just feels like my hands are nickels.
Me: Why do your hands feel like nickels?
Shelby: You know, because there's five of them and nickels are five cents!

Reading at the library :) Shelby looks soooo grown up to me here!
--Over breakfast, Shelby randomly states to Hadley: "Sissy, when I was your age I looooved going to Excel by Five." ;)
--I could still hear Hadley chattering away on the monitor about 20 minutes after I'd put her down for nap, so I went in her room to see if she needed a diaper change. Whenever I go in Hadley's room during naptime, I usually remind her to be quiet b/c Shelby is trying to sleep but I didn't say anything about being quiet on this day.
Me: Let's change your diaper, Hadley.
H: Can we be quiet?
Me: Sure, Shelby is trying to sleep.
H: No, me don't wanna be quiet. YOU be quiet!
Oooookay then, ;)

Every morning after dropping Shelby off for school, I volunteer by distributing the students' artwork into their totes to go home with any other miscellaneous paperwork. Hadley is my little helper!
--When Shelby got into the car after school one day, these were her first words: "Kaelyn said I'm not invited to her birthday party anymore." I told her that was okay b/c she'd already gone to Kaelyn's birthday party a mere 3 weeks ago. ;) Shelby corrected me and said she wasn't invited to Kaelyn's next birthday party...you know, the one 11 months away. ;) My heart was immediately crushed having flashbacks to my days teaching kindergarten when the kids would always revoke hypothetical birthday invitations to be ugly to one another. I seriously couldn't fathom how it was time for me to be having these conversations with Shelby. Somehow I can easily wrap my mind around how much Hadley has grown & matured over the past 2.5 years, but for some weird reason Shelby still seems like the same kid since Hadley was born. I know, that makes no sense. I know she's five, but it doesn't seem like we should be dealing with five year old drama yet. It's just so strange. Anyways, after a lot of questions, I finally got out of Shelby that she was sitting in the swing next to Kaelyn but Kaelyn wanted Ava to be swinging next to her instead of Shelby. After figuring out what had happened, I had no clue how to make Shelby feel better--I mean, what else is there to say other than sometimes people just say mean things for no reason. I kind of just winged it and said all I could do to make her understand and feel better. It was quiet in the car for a few minutes, so I thought the conversation was over when I heard her say in the saddest voice ever--"I think our friendship is...broken." Talk about heart-wrenching!!!

The girls love to ride bikes, but they have to stop every ten yards (I wish I was exaggerating) to pick flowers (aka weeds) ;)
--The other night at dinner, Shelby asked Derek how many people lived in the world. After Derek answered the question, Hadley quickly chimed in: "I think one of them hasn't gone potty yet...hmm, that's weird." It was the most random, off the wall comment and she said it while tapping her finger on her cheek. Shelby found Hadley's comment HYSTERICAL...and she is STILL asking Hadley to say it over & over & over again. ;)
