Pancakes, PJs, Parade, & Pool

We kicked off our weekend with a fun day at Marvelously Made on Friday--Pancakes & PJs!

Of course, Hadley wanted to be like her big sister & wear PJs to school, too! :)  Despite her asking many times before we left the house, Hadley seemed totally okay with the fact that she wasn't going to get to eat pancakes with the big kids. After Hadley & I finished stuffing the totes, Ms. Jennifer stopped us on our way out & asked if Hadley wanted to eat some pancakes. Hadley smiled really sweet & shy and shook her head no. I was so proud of her b/c she remembered that I'd already said no! But of course, Ms. Jennifer insisted that Hadley should join...so Hadley got to be one of the big kids! She was pretty thrilled with herself! As soon as she sat down, she immediately asked if Shelby could eat with her. I quickly spotted Shelby & asked if she wanted to come eat with Hadley, but Shelby was too busy playing to be interrupted with pancakes! Thankfully, Hadley was so excited she actually got to eat pancakes that she didn't mind doing it without her big sister.

And this weekend was Cornyval in Helotes, and Shelby's school always has a float in the annual parade. {Sidenote--when we were first moved to San Antonio & people would talk about Cornyval, I always thought they were just saying "carnival" in a weird way. ;)  After consulting good ole Wikipedia, I learned this: "The town name is derived from the Spanish word elote, which can mean "ear of maize", "corncob", or simply "corn."} We didn't get to participate last year b/c Derek was out of town for a work conference the weekend of Cornyval, so we were excited to be a part of it this year! We really had no clue what to expect, but it was a ton of fun! The parade route ended in Old Town Helotes, which is where Shelby's school is, so the kiddos got to hop off the float after the parade & play in the school's outdoor classroom and have a cookout..so fun!!

If we're going to be in Helotes on a Saturday morning, we can't not go to Shipley's for donuts!

All of the MM kiddos & their families that came out for the parade :)

Shelby was excited to be on the float! :)

The float was only for MM kiddos to ride & there was a loooong wait before the parade actually kicked off..so I was really thankful these two sweet little sisters had one another to keep each other company!

Playing ring around the rosie while they waited :)

And as you can see from this picture, Hadley managed to get on the float once the parade started thanks to Ms. Jennifer ;)

And this is how the girls (and their parents!!) felt after a very busy & fun-filled morning!

During the week, I usually try to have the girls down for their naps by 1:30. But a lot of times on the weekends, it's more like 2:00ish. But after being out in the sun all morning for the parade & cookout, we had them both in bed by 1:00 and still had to go in & wake Shelby up at 4:30! ;)  This girl appreciates naptime!!!!

Since the girls took such good naps that afternoon & the weather was gorgeous, we made a Saturday evening visit to the pool. It ended up being a momentous occasion b/c it was the first time in I can't remember how long that Hadley voluntarily got in the "big pool." Granted, she had a death grip on Derek's neck almost the entire time she was in the water & still refused to wear her puddle-jumper...but hey, it's progress!! ;)  I feel like she's going to be ten years old & still adamantly sitting on the steps while everyone else swims, ha!

Don't you love Shelby's fake smile here?! In her defense,
they were both FREEZING when they got out of the water!!

Hope your week is off to a great start, friends! :)
