Easter 2020

I know for a lot of people this holiday was a really strange one not being able to go to church or gather to celebrate with extended family. Aside from not going to church, this Easter really wan't all that different for us. Since we are a military family, we are accustomed to celebrating holidays/special occasions just the five of us. And under normal circumstances, we aren't huge fans of public Easter egg hunts b/c we don't love crowds, so every year we've always done our own little egg hunt in the front or backyard. So while this holiday certainly felt a little different than normal, we still dyed eggs, watched church from our living room couch, and hunted for Easter eggs. We were very grateful we had enough eggs to dye--eggs were very hard to come by the first couple of weeks of this pandemic!

The Easter Bunny left the kids a trail of jelly beans and M&M's leading to their Easter baskets in the kitchen...the biggest hit of their loot was a set of three walkie talkies!

Reading new books from the Easter Bunny while we watched church in our living room.

 {a few houses on our street hid eggs in their front yards for the kids to have a little extra joy on Easter morning!}

All smiles on the Monday after Easter enjoying all their goodies from the Easter Bunny--wearing new spring dresses, playing with walkie talkies, and eating chocolate bunnies!

During Advent, we read one chapter of the book of Luke in the Bible every night before bed with the kids. On Easter, Shelby told us how she's been reading through the Gospels on her own and suggested we start reading a chapter of Mark every night before bed like we did with Luke. So that's what we did! We are currently on Chapter 5 of Mark, and it amazes me how much the kids enjoy this and like following along in their Bibles as we take turns reading aloud. What a gift it has been to read through Mark together and be reminded of what really matters. What a gift it has been to be reminded that God has the whole world in his hands, and He's not one bit surprised at what's going on in our country today and across the globe. Better days are ahead, but this season is pretty special, too.
