My parents flew to Alaska the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with us. We were so excited to host our very first visitors here, and it was my parents' first time visiting Alaska...so it was extra special. We had some of our coldest temperatures yet this season, and they got to see a fresh snowfall while they were here...so they really got to appreciate the full Alaska-in-winter experience, ha!
They arrived in Anchorage on Tuesday evening once it was already dark, and Wednesday brought gray skies and dreary weather...it was a bummer they couldn't enjoy the view! But once the girls headed off to school and a game or two of chess was played, we headed on base to show my parents Derek's hospital and then go out to lunch together.
We spotted the cutest reindeer cake pops at Starbucks while we were out, so we just had to get those for after-school treats! Derek brought a newspaper home from base for my parents to look at it, and everyone got into the crossword together.
The next morning we woke up to Thanksgiving Day! Shelby & the boys all bundled up to hike down to the bank of Eagle River while my mom, Hadley, and I started preparing for our feast!
The day after Thanksgiving we had reservations for a Christmas tour at the Reindeer Farm in Palmer. It was so much fun!
Sunday was a full, fun day! We took my parents to Reflection Lake to go for a hike, took a short drive up Skyline Drive near our house to enjoy the views, we went bowling on base, and out to dinner at Olive Garden!
On Monday it was back to school and work for Derek & the girls and the weather was still super cold, so we decided to check out the Anchorage mall for the first time with my parents. But a few stories & ornament painting first! :)
We can't wait to show them more of Alaska the next time they come to visit when it isn't quite so cold out! :)
