Shelby & Derek's Snow Machine Trip

The Outdoor Recreation program on base offers so many amazing experiences to service members & their families to enjoy all that Alaska has to offer. We have tried to be really intentional this winter about taking advantage of these opportunities! We have done snow tubing, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and now snow machining--all through the base! {As an aside, we always thought they were called "snowmobiles." But here, it is only called "snow machining."} Outdoor Rec has a minimum age of 12 for snow machine passengers, so this was a special trip for just Derek & Shelby. They met at the Outdoor Rec building on base & then drove out to Willow {a little over an hour away} for their excursion.

Another random fun fact about snow machining is that around our neighborhood/town there are signs  delineating which trails/paths are only intended for bikes/foot traffic and not to be used by snow machines.

While Derek & Shelby were gone, Hadley, Brady, and I enjoyed a morning of sleeping in followed by pancakes a la Hadley. Lots of games were played, and the temperatures were oddly "warm" by Alaskan winter standards...which meant the snow was finally sticky/wet enough to build a snowman! A great day was had by all!

What a blessing these experiences are!
