She's Ready for the Spelling Bee!

Every so often, I have been working with Shelby on getting her to answer the question "How old are you?". Invariably, when I say "You are ONE!", she responds with: "two, three, four, five, six, eight, nine, ten." {She usually skips seven..who really cares about silly ole seven anyways, right?!} Since we weren't getting anywhere with "How old are you?", we moved on to "What's your name?". After about the twentieth time we asked Shelby what her name was {the previous nineteen times, we were completely ignored}, Shelby stopped what she was doing, looked at us, and said: "S-H-E-L-B-Y." I'm pretty sure both of our jaws dropped to the floor. Derek & I could not believe she had just spelled her name like it was no big deal! We then discovered that she could also spell "Mommy" and "Daddy." Crazy, right?! Our 21 month doesn't know how to eat yet, but she can spell..ha! go figure! We are assuming she picked up this new talent this past week when we were coloring with crayons and sidewalk chalk. Coloring only holds Shelby's attention for a minute or two, but she LOVES to sit and watch/help me write our names, write letters, draw shapes, and make pictures. Usually, when I write our names I spell them aloud. So apparently she's been doing a good job of listening! ;)
