Shelby and I made the 551 mile trek to Ormond Beach on Saturday, and we are currently enjoying some vacay time with my family! I had been dreading the drive for the days leading up to it, but it ended up being SO much easier than I envisioned! I woke Shelby up early and gave her some milk and then we were on the road by 7am. We drove for a little over an hour before stopping for breakfast. Then we drove for a couple more hours before stopping at a rest area to let Shelby run around for a bit/have a snack. Drove some more..stopped for lunch...drove some more..stopped for a treat at DQ & to let Shelby run around for a bit..drove some more, and then we were here!! It made such a huge difference to take frequent breaks and it helped me knowing I wouldn't have any super-long stretches of driving. And it certainly didn't hurt that Shelby was in the most cooperative/patient mood she's ever been in on a road trip. :) And she even took a 30 minute nap in the car--hallelujah! {For those of you who don't know, my child never sleeps in the car..so 30 minutes is a pretty big deal!}
We are settling into our condo here and finding our new rhythm/routine for Shelby that includes plenty of beach & pool time for her, but we are really missing Daddy! Derek couldn't join us this year due to his work schedule, and it will be a long three weeks without him...especially since Shelby is constantly asking about him! Thankfully, we have been able to Skype with him every day since we left.
I'm sure my blogging will be far from "regular" while we are out of town, but I will try to post a few vacation photos later this week!
