Tuesday Tidbits

How is it already February?! Time is flying by these days. Here are a few random tidbits to update you on all things Smith to start your Tuesday morning :)

--Derek started working nights at the hospital on Friday. Thankfully, it's only for 2 weeks though! After having Derek on an elective rotation Nov-Jan, this has been a hard transition for us! Especially considering his schedule in January was nothing short of fabulous. He was working at the local VA hospital which is just 5 minutes away. He didn't have to be there until 7:30 or 8, so we got to wake up at the same time together every day...which usually never happens! He got to come home for lunch at least once a week, had all weekends off, and was always home around 5 or 5:30 in the evenings...I could sooooo get used to that schedule! ;)  But nights it is for now.
--Because Derek was starting the night shift on Friday night, he was home Friday during the day. We took advantage of having him home on a Friday morning and drove over to Ocean Springs for some Tatonut :)  It was delightful!

--This is a busy week for Shelby & me. Today I have a KSC board meeting, hair appt, and Kindermusik in the evening. On Wednesday, Shelby & I have plans to go to Excel by Five to play in the morning and then I am hosting a KSC fundraiser on base from 2-6. Thursday is MMO for Shelby-girl and a doctor's appt for me...busy, busy! I have a feeling that February is going to fly by as quickly as January did!
--After Christmas, Derek & I were starting to feel a little overwhelmed b/c we really hadn't done anything to prepare for this next baby. But since then, I am thrilled to say we have crossed SO much off of our list! We got Shelby moved into her big girl room to make room for the baby in the nursery, and we've made *almost* all of our purchases to get ready for baby #2. Thankfully there wasn't too much we needed since this is our second and it's the same sex, but there was still a few things we needed--a 2nd baby monitor & sound machine (b/c we still wanted to use a monitor & sound machine for Shelby), a double stroller, a new breast pump (I had a single pump that I used with Shelby, but I have a feeling I'll be relying on the pump a bit more this time around so I wanted a double), a nursing cover (with Shelby, I planned all of our outings around her feeding/nap schedule...so I rarely had to nurse on the go. Thus, I never needed a nursing cover. But this time around, I think I'll need to be more prepared to nurse in public since we are always on the go with Shelby.), an additional baby carrier (again, since we are on the go so much with Shelby, I think it'll be nice to be able to wear the baby more). This weekend, I also started washing, drying, folding, & organizing all of Shelby's baby clothes to go in the nursery closet. With each passing day, we feel a little more ready to bring a new baby home. :)  But we still haven't decided on a name yet! Hopefully soon b/c I really want to get a few things monogrammed before she actually arrives!
--Things we still have to do to get ready for baby #2: decide on a name (!!!), assemble the new stroller, get out Shelby's old bouncy seat/swing/car seat/etc, pack bags for the hospital (Shelby was 1.5wks late, and I never packed our bags! Ha! Hopefully this time I'll get it done ahead of time so I'm not sending Derek on a wild goose chase around the house trying to find everything I need again this time!). I'm sure there's probably more we need to do, but that's all I can think of for now!

--We booked our rooms for a mini-vacay to Disney World in April! Yay! Derek has a work conference at Disney at the end of April, so we are tagging along! We are probably crazy to try to take a 2.5 year old & a newborn to Disney World...but we couldn't pass up the opportunity! We just know Shelby is going to have the best time! And it made our decision to go a lot easier b/c my parents are going to join us on the trip! It will be so fun for Shelby to experience Disney World for the first time with her parents & grandparents, and it will be so nice for us to have some extra help with the girls! We are so thankful they'll be able to join us!
