Shelbyisms, Round Two

A random compilation of quotes & anecdotes that I don't want to forget about our Shelby-girl at 3.5 years old.

--After we had finished putting on shoes & jackets in preparation to go ride bikes outside, I said "Okay, let's hit the road!" To which Shelby replied: "No, no, no! Let's hit the sidewalk, Mommy! We ride our bikes on the sidewalk, NOT the road!"
--During lunch one day Shelby told me: "Mommy, you're really good at driving & eating cookies!"  It's good to know what my strong suits are in life. ;)
--Shelby was looking at her reflection in the mirror as she washed her hands & exclaimed: "Mommy, I'm cracked open!" I had no clue what she was talking about until she pointed to her vein on her eyelid, which did look like a "crack." ;)  It's so funny to watch kids see something or notice it for the very first time!
--On our way to school one morning, Shelby said: "Mommy, can you please turn my music down for a minute so you can hear me?" She had never before asked me to turn down the music, so I was anxious to hear what was so important! After I turned down the music, she asked: "Mommy, why are we not going to Taco Bell?" We had just driven by a Taco Bell, but please keep in mind that there is not one item on the menu at Taco Bell that Shelby eats. ;)  I told her we weren't going to Taco Bell b/c we had to go to school. To which she replied: "We can go to Taco Bell on April 8th. Can you turn my music back up now?" What?!?! Crazy girl!
--Shelby regularly incorporates phrases from the books we read into our conversations, and it always cracks me up! If she ever says something completely off the wall & I can't figure out what she's talking about, I can almost always say "What books is that from?" and she'll be able to tell me which book & which character said that. Two of her recent favorite phrases from a book are "Boy do I!" and "Impossible!"
--When Shelby pretend plays with her dollhouse or princesses and makes them talk, she'll say things like: " 'Goodbye,' Mommy said" or " 'Please come here,' Cinderella insisted. Can you tell she spends a lot of time reading or being read to? ;)
--If I have to leave Shelby for a minute to do something for Hadley or start the washing machine, she will almost always choose reading a book by herself over playing by herself.
--These pictures are terribly blurry, but I just wanted to include them b/c this is Shelby dancing at Kangarooz with her best little friend from school, Elise. We go to Kangarooz every Wednesday for their Toddler Time, and these two girls have the BEST time together!

--Shelby has a very vivid memory of catching ladybugs last spring, and she has been DYING for them to come out this year! Today she caught her first one, and she did it all by herself! She was beside herself!! She came running to show me, and I'm pretty sure it was her proudest moment!

--When I asked Shelby to clean up her toys one day, she said "Well, I need to leave them out in case Oscar comes over." To which I obviously replied "What?!" b/c what kind of a comment was that?! Shelby explained: "I need to leave these toys out b/c Oscar is coming over and Oscar the Grouch looooooves messes, Mommy!" ;)  Nice try, Shelby-girl!
--Hadley was whining one day, and Shelby asked why she was whining. I explained to Shelby that sometimes babies (or people!) whine when they're tired, hungry, or sad. She then said: "Well, sometimes we whine when we're waiting to play golf." And to Shelby's credit, that is 100% correct in her case! ;)
