Shelby's Room

Shelby decided that she wanted to have her room updated for her 11th birthday. That ended up getting delayed a bit due to Derek's unexpected deployment, and it's still not totally done thanks to Ikea not having the dresser in stock yet (and since we don't have all the furniture in place yet, we don't want to start hanging things on walls, etc.) But here are some progress pictures!

All of the walls in our house are the same beige color, with the exception of one bold blue accent wall in Hadley's room that was painted by the previous owners for their new baby boy's nursery. It worked out perfectly that blue is Hadley's favorite color, so she called that room as soon as she saw it. ;)  Shelby's first order of business for her new room was PAINT! Here is our "before" picture:

We moved everything out of Shelby's room and into our bonus room while we were painting. Shelby slept in the guest room for two nights until we were finished and had her room back in functional order.

And just like that, the paint was done!!

First night in her new bed!

Shelby wanted to downsize to a twin bed, so she would have more space in her bedroom for a desk. The picture below doesn't capture it very well, but I absolutely love how her desk & chair came together! And I never could have imagined how much use it would get! Since Shelby's class is a hybrid model she does science, history, art, handwork, sports, bible lessons, etc. at school, and then she does her math & language arts curriculum at home. She sets her alarm at 5:50am every morning and spends about an hour in her room working hard while the rest of the house is still quiet. She gets so much done this way, and the best part is she is thrilled with it!

Hopefully Ikea will have her dresser back in stock soon, so we can finish up this girl's room! But for now, she is so happy with it & so are we!
