Shelby's First Day of Kindergarten

August 29th, 2016 marked Shelby's first day of Kindergarten!!!

Just a tad excited :)
Reading with Grammy before it was time to head out the door for school!
Walking to school, so thankful our house is only about 100yds from the school!

Shelby wanted a picture with her teacher & of course Hadley couldn't be left out ;)

Shelby's school does drop-off/pick-up differently than any other school I've seen. Part of the reason they have to do things differently is b/c I'd say about 90% of the school's students are dropped off/picked up by their parents...it's insane! Anyhow, Kindergarteners are dropped off/picked up at the Kindergarten playground. The girls were having fun playing before the bell rang on the first day. :)

All the Kindergarten parents were allowed to walk into the classroom with their kiddos on their first day :)

Shelby's classroom wasn't originally a Kindergarten classroom, so there aren't cubbies/backpack hooks for the kiddos like you would typically see in a Kindergarten room. On the first day, the teacher was showing the kids how to hang their backpacks on the back of their chairs. It was hysterical watching b/c every.single.parent was there in the back of the room wanting so badly to just jump in & help their child do it. It's hard letting go!!!

Cake pops to celebrate a great first day!

Shelby had a great first day!!! I was so nervous the night before her first day & the day of--I remember well what the first day of Kindergarten looks like, and I was just so worried for her even though I knew she'd be fine! And she was more than fine! She absolutely loved it! Shelby comes home completely exhausted every day, but she always has lots of stories to share & is eager to go back the next day! It's such a strange feeling being the parent of a Kindergartener & not the teacher. It feels like we're on the brink of a whole new chapter in our family's story--the school years! It's a big change for all of us, but I'm so excited for Shelby!!
