6:06 I rolled over to see what time it was on my phone, and I legitimately couldn't figure out if it was Friday or Saturday morning. Then it dawned on me that it was actually Tuesday, ha! So I rolled out of bed, kissed Derek goodbye as he headed downstairs to leave for work, and hopped in the shower.
6:30 After a quick shower, drying my hair, and throwing on clothes, I walked out of my room to find Hadley in Shelby's room getting an impromptu piano lesson. It was hard to be too mad at them b/c they were being so sweet to one another, but I got onto them for not having their "morning jobs" done {they're supposed to have beds made & be dressed before leaving their rooms} and told them to come downstairs so I could fix their hair.
6:50 The girls' hair is done {they both requested what we call "braid ponies"}, and they settled on the couch to read while I got busy prepping Hadley's snack for school & Shelby's lunchbox.
7:10 The girls & I sit down to eat breakfast together. About half-way through breakfast, I hear Brady start playing in his crib. I decide to just let him hang out in his crib for a little bit longer and make him a to-go breakfast to eat while we go for our morning walk after dropping the girls at school.
7:30 We're done eating, and I tell the girls they can play or read for a couple minutes while I clean up from breakfast. They decide to play cars & spend more time arguing over who gets which cars than they do playing.
7:35 We all head upstairs to brush teeth, go potty, and get Brady up. After a quick diaper change for him and putting our shoes on, we're ready to go!
7:50 We're finally out the door! It's later than we should leave since the first bell rings at 7:40, but the second bell doesn't ring until 7:55 and we're incredibly spoiled living right across the street from our school.
8:05 Brady is in the stroller, and we walk back to our neighborhood with my neighbor Jessica and her little boy. Then she jumps in her car to take her youngest to preschool {they are our walking buddies on Mondays & Wednesdays}, and Brady and I head out for our walk. We walk for a while, stop off at the park to play for a bit, and I talk to my mom on the phone for about 45 minutes of that time.
Ladybug Sighting!
9:30 Brady & I are back home in the playroom playing with cars and cooling off.
10:00 Brady has a poopy diaper, so we head upstairs to change his diaper and get him dressed for the day.
10:20 I quickly put the dishes away from breakfast. {I hand-wash all of our dishes and let them air dry on the drying rack in our sink, so I was just putting away the dry dishes that I washed after we ate breakfast.}
10:25 Brady and I leave to go pick up Hadley from Pre-K.
10:40 Back home from picking up Hadley. Hadley and Brady play for a bit while I get lunch prepped.
11:00 Lunchtime!
11:25 Brady & Hadley play while I clean up from lunch.
11:40 All three of us head upstairs together to get Brady ready for his nap. Hadley requests that I read Diary of a Worm and Brady consents.
11:55 After we get Brady down, Hadley and I usually fold and put away a load of laundry that I washed the night before. We get our laundry folded, and then I start a load of bathroom rugs in the washing machine.
12:15 Our laundry is done, and Hadley requests her post-lunch treat and story. Hadley selects three Starbursts as her treat of choice, and we sit down to read The Lorax out of a Dr. Seuss anthology we have. Of course after we finish The Lorax, Hadley sees How the Grinch Stole Christmas so we have to read that one, too. ;)
12:50 I tell Hadley I have a few things to do, so she happily draws and plays Play-doh for a few minutes while I do a couple random tasks--send an email, write a card to someone, text our sitter to confirm the time she's coming later in the week, put away our dishes from lunch, etc. I also text Derek to check in, and he lets me know a plumber called him to get a time scheduled for them to come take a look at something in our house. He passes the plumber's number along to me, so I can call back and set up a date/time {since I'm the one who will be here when he comes}, but when I call there's no answer.
1:40 All of a sudden, I look up and realized it's almost time to go pick up Shelby. I tell Hadley to go ahead and go potty and put shoes on, and we will work on a puzzle for a few minutes until we have to leave. As soon we start the puzzle, my phone rings and it's the plumber saying someone will be "on the way" shortly. I tell him I have to pick up my daughter from school, but anytime after 2:15 should work. He assures me that's fine b/c there will be traffic on the interstate. I get off the phone with him & set to work to make sure he'll have a clear path to where he'll need to be when he arrives.
2:05 Hadley & I leave to pick up Shelby from school and rush home in case the plumber arrives.
2:20 We're back home, shoes are off, and backpack unpacked. Shelby settles in on the couch to read, Hadley is puzzling, and I get Shelby's lunchbox unpacked & everything washed.
2:45 Back downstairs & everyone is content playing, so I sneak my snack in the kitchen. I'm on the last bite of my granola bar when Brady spots me, so I quickly get their snacks ready. ;)
3:00 Snacktime!

3:20 Everyone is finished with snack, and this is typically when we might go swim or go to the park, but I'm anticipating the plumber any minute so we stick to the playroom.
4:00 Squabbling is starting to increase. On the upside, after Hadley stormed off to go pout in a corner Brady went to check on her and totally cheered her up. Cutest thing ever!
4:30 Starting to get incredibly frustrated that we are essentially sitting ducks in our own house & starting to wonder what exactly the plumber meant when he said he was "on the way" almost two hours ago. I quickly call the plumber, and he assures me he's still "on the way." Okaaaaaayyy. Hadley & Brady are both kind of pouty, so we snuggle up on the couch for a couple books. That always seems to do the trick!
4:40 We typically do baths/showers for our kids before dinner, but I'm hesitant to go upstairs in case the plumber arrives--I was worried I might not hear him at the door with the water running in the tub. I leave Shelby downstairs reading on the couch to listen out for the door, and I take the other two up for their bath. Then when they're done in the tub, Hadley switches places with Shelby so she can come up for her shower.
5:15 Brady and I make our way downstairs, and I turn the PBS Kids channel on for Brady & Hadley while I go to get dinner ready.
5:30 Derek is home, and still no sign of the plumber. We turn the TV off and sit down for dinner. Derek & I can are eating leftover White Chicken Chili, and the kids are having leftover pasta & apple slices.
6:00 Derek does the dishes and I talk to him/referee our children, and then we let them have a small bowl of ice cream for dessert before we head upstairs.
6:40 Upstairs to brush teeth, go potty, and read stories. Derek does Brady's stories, and I read a couple chapters of Flora & Ulysses to the girls.
7:15 We aim for 7:00 bedtime, but we weren't too far off tonight. Derek and I both walk down the hall to our bedroom and collapse on our bed for a few minutes. We chat and check in on our phones for a bit--he catches up on the news & the stock market, while I check social media, ha! We have both finally given up hope that the plumber is actually coming. Why do repair people always do this?! Why can't they just give you a time and actually show up when they say they will?!?!
7:55 After we muster up the energy to get up off our bed, Derek heads downstairs to run on the treadmill and I get a load of laundry started and do a few other random tasks.
8:30 When Derek finishes running, we sit at the kitchen table and chat for a bit while enjoying some Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream.
9:30 Derek takes a quick shower while I work on some stuff for Teacher Appreciation since I am the class mom for Shelby's class
10:00 We head upstairs to get ready for bed. We chat for a few minutes in bed, and then Derek goes right to sleep. I, on the other hand, get sucked in looking at social media/"window shopping" online for far too long on my phone
10:30 I finally put my phone down to read a few pages of Melanie Shankle's newest book Church of the Small Things. I should totally go to bed sooner than I do most days, but the hardest part about life at this stage is there is always at least one kid awake/with me at all times...so I never get any "down time" to myself. As much as I love those three kids, I relish the peace & quiet at night!
There's a peek into our little life these days! It's hard to imagine what our "Day in the Life" post might look like in the fall! How will Hadley be old enough to be in school all day?! Will the girls be riding the bus to their new school?! What will Brady & I do with ourselves all day long??? Crazy to think about!
And as a follow-up, the repair guy that never showed up yesterday texted me this morning at 10:15 to ask if he could come right then. I replied and said 10:45-1:30 would work for us today, and he immediately texted back to say he was "on the way." I'm still not sure what "on the way" means to this guy, but at 1:00 he finally showed up only to discover the issues we contacted our property manager about are not little ones..so it sounds like we might be spending a lot of time with this guy in our house over the next couple weeks! Fun times!! ;)
