Life Lately

All of our trips & birthdays are officially behind us, and we are in officially in full-fledged summer mode around here! So here's a little look into our summer days...

The biggest news is that Hadley started piano lessons! Shelby started lessons in the fall of first grade, so now that Hadley is on the brink of first grade..it's her turn! It has been a good challenge for her thus far, and we love her teacher, Mr. Thomas! I've already heard Brady saying: "When I start piano...." ;)

We love San Antonio's Magik Theatre downtown, and they put on an amazing free showing of Jack and the Beanstalk at our local library--we all LOVED it!

When I took this next picture, it felt like we were officially back to "normal." Brady hadn't done his puzzles in over a month due to traveling & post-travel recuperation, and when I found him sitting there with his letters scattered around him it felt like all was right in the world again!

We made to make a pitstop at Barnes & Noble to grab a gift card, which made everyone very happy!

{the library is our happy place!}

Our movie theatre shows a free kids movie every week, and it is a big hit for our crew!

{making paper chains to count down to the first day of school!}

I took that last picture at the children's museum this morning & texted it to Derek with the caption: "You'll be teaching this girl how to drive a real car in just a little over SIX years." HOW is that possible?!

First Family Camping Trip {Paradise Canyon}

Derek & I used to go camping together in college & then as newlyweds, but we haven't gone camping since having kids. Here's a quick flashback to what I *think* was our first camping trip in college to Helen, GA over Fall Break 2005, which would have been our senior year.

We've always wanted to take our kids camping someday, but we've put it off over the years primarily b/c we were terrified no one would sleep. ;)   But a couple months ago when Shelby mentioned the idea of camping, we just decided to go for it this summer! And I'm so glad we did! Despite 100 degree heat, everyone had a blast & slept great! We went to a place called Paradise Canyon that I'd never even heard of before, but it was only a quick 25-30min drive from our house. It was the perfect spot! We headed out to our campsite as soon as Derek got home from work this past Friday evening, and then we were back home for lunch on Sunday. Now for picture overload! :)

The kids loved it & have already asked when we can go back, so I think it's safe to say we'll be doing this again soon! Maybe next time we'll go in the Fall or the Spring though . ;)
