that's what she said

--As I was tucking Shelby in for her nap this afternoon, I went through my usual naptime spiel with her--reminding her that she didn't have to sleep but she at least had to stay in her bed to rest. I loved her response!!! Clearly, Shelby has been watching too much golf with Daddy on the weekends! ;)

S: Sleep is kinda like golf, right Mama?
me (confused): How is golf like sleep?
S: You know, if you sleep it's like a birdie. It's good. Resting is like a par. And if you get a book to read in your bed (this happens to be Shelby's biggest naptime offense--reading books in her bed), that is defintiely a bogie!

--As I was changing Hadley's diaper one day, she told me: "Mama, I love my bottom." Good to know! ;)

Hadley walking to the car after church on Sunday--she insisted on wearing her backpack, and I couldn't get over how little it made her seem! The sun also made her hair appear much redder in this picture, and I was blown away by how much she looks like Shelby in this picture!

--We were discussing something that had happened a long time ago, and I asked Shelby if she remembered it. "Yep, I've got that in my memory pocket!" ;)

--Conversation over breakfast last week that seriously melted me:
S: I think they have computers in heaven.
me: They do?
S: Yes, so that you can Skype with people in heaven. Is that right, Mama?

Sometimes Shelby will tell us things that she thinks are true or that might be true, and when she is wrapping up her thought or fact that she thinks is true but she's not quite sure she'll cock her head to the side and say: "Is that right?" It's just a little idiosyncrasy that is so Shelby.

--Speaking of indiosyncrasies, Hadley will never answer a question with a simple "yes" or "no." She physically has to answer questions in a complete sentence in the most emphatic/sassy tone possible. For instance, if Derek asks to read her bedtime stores, the answer is "You may not."  If I ask Hadley to do a chore & she's not in the mood, I'll hear "I will not." It cracks us up every single time!

Helping me make me poppyseed chicken casserole last night for dinner :)

--We often tell Shelby that we love her to the moon & back. Ever since she started reading books about planets & outerspace a few months ago, she loves to tell us that she loves "all the way to Pluto and back nine times." ;) She'll always follow that up by saying "that's a lot of lovin'!"

--Another conversation over breakfast one morning:
S: What if all the sand in the world was only on the beaches and there wasn't any sand leftover for sandboxes?
me: Oh, wow. That would be sad if there wouldn't be sand for any kids to play with in their sandboxes.
H: Oh, no!
S: YES! Yes, sissy! "Oh no" is the right answer! You got it, sissy!!

Shelby's reaction to Hadley's response seriously cracked me up. But the funniest part was that they recreated this conversation at least 2 or 3 other times to my knowledge. Shelby would ask her "What if all the sand..." question, and Hadley would reply "Oh no!" in a shocked tone. And each time, Shelby was just thrilled to no end with Hadley for saying the right answer! It was too much!

--And finally, this is something they request to do every single morning lately--Shelby wants to get in Hadley's crib when we go in her room to get her up so that they can pretend to sleep. And they especially love it when I take pictures of them when they're pretending to sleep. I have no idea why, but this is like the most fun thing ever to them! ;)

It cracks me up every time b/c Hadley can immitate a very sweet sleeping face with a slight smile, but Shelby cannot pretend to sleep without squeezing her eyes shut as hard as humanly possible! ;)
